Gawler is an important Barossa
Valley rural service centre scenically located on
the North & South Parra Rivers. It is one of
SA’s most important historic towns and its
proximity to
Adelaide (41 km south) has resulted in growing
numbers of daily commuters. Established in 1839 and
named after Governor Gawler, this very attractive
town is today dominated by wheat farms and
vineyards. Gawler South markets (Sun am), Gawler
Gourmet & Heritage Festival (Easter). Gawler has
a motel, almost a dozen hotels, 2 B&Bs, farm
stay, holiday cottages & caravan
parks.
